Board Member Description & Expectations
The success of York City Dollars for Scholars (YCDFS) relies upon an active board of directors. YCDFS is an operational board whose charge is to develop and create policy as well as play an active role in the planning and delivery of programs and services. Support of the board is conducted by the volunteers and the board of directors. As a member of York City Dollars for Scholars board of directors, your responsibilities may include:
- Understand the bylaws, other policies, and participate and provide input when reviewing, revising, and amending any policies for YCDFS and its programs.
- Attend and prepare for monthly board meetings.
- Serves as an advocate for YCDFS and its mission in the York City Community.
- Assist in the recruitment of board members and participate with YCDFS professional development opportunities.
- Serve on at least one committee and regularly attend committee meetings.
- Participate in YCDFS special events, financial support, attendance, sponsorship, and volunteer labor.
- Bring your knowledge of the community and its leadership needs to the board.
- Know the YCDFS vision and mission, and act and serve in a manner which strives to further the YCDFS purpose.
- Be a passionate supporter and representative of YCDFS to the community.
- Annually complete and sign relevant policies.
Positions at YCDFS
- Directors/board members (three year terms)
- YCDFS has a minimum of nine (9) persons serving as directors who are elected by the Board of Directors at each annual meeting.
- Officers
- Officers are elected from among the Board of Directors at each annual meeting. Current officer roles include:
- President (1 year term)
- Vice President (1 year term)
- Treasurer (1 year term)
- Secretary (1 year term)

- Standing Committee Chairs
- YCDFS committees serve to address specific needs of the organization and are reflective of their respective names. Each committee is chaired by a Board of Director. These include:
- Fund-Raising
- Publicity
- Nominating
- Awards
- Academic Support
- Investment/Budget
